Quality Wine - When wine is mentioned, thoughts drift to France.; home of Champagne and also to the fine wines found on the Rhone, in Burgungy, Bordeaux. The French are passionate about their wines and Mario has bought some of that passion with him to South Norfolk.
For pubs and restaurants alike, the presentation and quality on the menu is paramount. Here in East Anglia we grow some of the finest malting barley (used for brewing beer) in the country. Thankfully it is not all exported and we have some excellent local independant breweries in the area.
For the uninitiated, it may come as a surprise that Real Ale is a living thing. Water, hops, malted barley are acted on by yeast which transforms the sugars available in the malt creating alchohol. The strength of the resultant brew depends on both the original sugar content of the brew (or wort) as it is more properly known as; and the type of yeast used.
Gravity Fed Quality -Beer engines and complicated pumps may be used but many believe that it tastes best straight out of barrel, so that is the way real ale is served at The Gull.
Quality Atmosphere - Come and sit by a open fire and sample the subtleties real ale in Norfolk where the finest brewing barley is grown.
